The Source – Internship

The Source is a student Intern program which is supported by Bloc Beatz Records, based in Birmingham.

The Source gives a platform to help students gain work experience and guide them to excel in the workings of the music and creative arts industry.

The program allows for different platforms to be challenged and utilized in order to give an understanding of the real life workings and scenarios befitting a music label. It offers the students an insight into the working environment of a music business.

One major part of the the source program will be working to give awareness to the public, the label artists and producers background and their music. The Label influences are from the Deep house, Tech house and Bass house genre.

We feel that the music is the most important part of what we do and it all stems from a healthy community willing to work with each other on the basis of the final product –  the music. We hope that you agree! and feel as passionate about it as us.

In the past students have done PR, music production, videography, photography, journalism, artist management, event planning, event management, promotions and A&R work. All areas have been included in the Program which allows interns to develop and harness their skills and then in the latter part of  the program they will work more on their chosen area of expertise to excel in an end product for The Source.

Many of the Interns that have completed our work experience program have gone on to do really well in their chosen profession. Here is a few quotes from former students that have gone on to work within the industry:

Caroline Preston

“I started working with Bloc Beatz after graduating from The University of East London as I was interested in music and events. Working with Bloc Beatz I experienced artist management, event planning, A&R, social networking and also working in a group of other like-minded people. I gained a number of transferable skills and it also gave me a good insight into the music industry. From here I went on to work in an events company as a project manager, and I believe working with Bloc Beatz helped me to my path to my dream job.”

Courteney Tarleton

“I worked with Bloc Beatz during my final year at university while studying at Birmingham City University. For my final major project I had to create a media product and was able to help develop material for Bloc Beatz, which included interviews, developing their website, photo shoots for an artist and promotional material for The Source.  Working with Bloc Beatz allowed me the opportunity to work in the industry that I love and develop my skills in many different areas. I learned many skills during my time there and it allowed me to create a base of work to help me in the future.”

Maddie Charles

“I worked with Bloc Beatz during my first year of studying Media at Birmingham City University. I was interested in various aspects of media, particularly photography, videography and promotion. My experience at Bloc Beatz was highly beneficial as I was given tasks that made use of my existing production skills and gave me the opportunity to develop them further too. I also gained insight into the music industry and the various roles within it.”
